After a lengthy application process, the New York State Education Department has approved Autistic Services application for providing professional training in the needs of students with Autism. Recent NYS legislation requires all special education teachers who are seeking certification, and school administrators working with students in special education, to have a minimum of 3 hours of training on the needs of students with autism. The State’s approval allows for Autistic Services to provide the required training for special ed professionals. “We’ll be able to work with the teachers and administrators in public schools, specialized schools and other private schools in the region,” says Jeff Fox, Chief Operating Officer at Autistic Services, inc. “This is one major step in our goal of giving Western New York a center for learning all the important things that should be known about Autism and working with a child who is on the Autism spectrum.” Autism is a neurological disorder that affects 1 out of every 90th person. The agency’s approval as a training facility follows their recent expansion of two new service facilities into Williamsville and Buffalo.
